Hi people of treasure net! First off, sorry about my clumsy posting ( most of my posts have errors, etc).

Anyways, I heard from my grandpa that silver colored coins which are made in 1964 or older are 90% silver. Is this true?

No. I believe during WWII they had 30% silver nickels from 1940 to like 1944. I guess they needed nickel for weapons and stuff so they changed the amount of nickel going into nickels in the 1940's. It's very hard to find silver in todays currency and the likelyhood of finding silver is pretty slim. Thats why you can find 1930's nickels but you can never find silver nickels from the 40's.

Just look on the back of the coin for a large mint mark above the Monticello. If not there then it is NOT a silver War Nickel. Silver War Nickels were minted from 1942-1945
