Thanksgiving on the "hoof"

Now that the garden is said and done, our local turkeys, which apparently have lost all fear of us, have been spending their days with the leftovers!

Yes, they were right at the corner of our basement in the one shot (with me in it). They are here everyday. They have the older corn spread all over the place, since they fight over it, constantly, and they drag entire fallen ears from the garden up to the side of the basement (cannot figure that out).

Oh, yea - I've hunted for as long as I can remember. 10? or so? Got to go get our turkey tag this week.

There is a big tree right across our fence with a pond, and they nest in it at night. They just didn't used to be so brazen.

They probably drag the ears up to the basement cause it gives them a sense of security with the house being there, it sounds like a perfect set up tree tp roost a pond FOOD! and a bit of security! What more could they ask for OOPS! HUNTING SEASON! Hehe! Fat on corn they should taste DELICIOUS!

Re: Thanksgiving on the "hoof"

LOL, them turkeys are becoming common place. :D I so far have not minded the seven that have decided to claim my property as their hangout, but yesterday my new DIL stepped in some of there you know what and that is starting to become a problem :(

Also, we had guilt feeling two evenings ago, sitting at the dining table carving our Turkey at the same time looking at the window at the seven eating below our window! ::)

The males in your yard are mature ones at least, the two out of seven in our flock are this year's younguns............

There are (at last count) 27 turkeys, (they seem to vary from 22-30) but the others don't come in as close as this crew, even though they are part of the flock.

I love seeing them - and eating turkey.

Yea - if I had over 160 acres, I wouldn't. Funny thing, though, a lot of things around here go "bump" in the night!
