The 'White Park' breed of cattle were roaming the British Isles as far back as the (Time of Christ), they have black ears
& black noses, there are but a few places in the U.S. that breed them.
Their horns resemble a 'Lyra', derived from the 'Lyre' (an ancient musical instrument).

You're welcome Mamabear, i learned this bit of info from (Seed Savers), they have farms in Decorah Iowa
& they raise the 'White park' breed, & acres of 'Heirloom seed crops'.
I know a lady in AR that raises them, but she 'crossbreeds', not good. >:(

I'm from Iowa Fossis and didn't know about that breed of Cattle. They sure have neat horns! Everyone kind of looks at Iowa as the corn and Hog state, but some of the finest beef you could ever hope to eat is raised here. We don't have all the big feed lots as we once did,but still produce a great product. You are a great source of learning for everyone on here! Keep up the great posts.

Great lesson Fossis! Tat little calf looks camera shy, too cute.

Thanks, I was driving 'slowly' by so they wouldn't spook, if i had gotten out of my truck they probably
would have scattered.

Neat critter Fossis!

There's been notable interest in historic animals and vegetable/grain crops of late, as the big conglomerates that actually feed us are leaning strongly towards GMO's.

They may, indeed, produce more for consumption, yet there is no clue how resistant they may be to some sort of contagion. Would it spread like wildfire amongst ALL of a species and wipe out everything?

Nobody knows.
