I think this one is a "Polyphemus moth"...."the mose widespread silk moth that is found throughout the the lower 48 states".
(A good book that shows lots of moths as well as other bugs is the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America.)

Agree with Polyphemus moth. Interesting habitat. For protection, the moth will hand upside-down on a branch, showing the large "eyes", that resemble an owl's eyes. Few birds willing to take that big a chance.
