On one of my walks with Benson today I saw a Green Woodpecker and I thought I would have a go at getting some shots of it. They are very timid birds so I couldn't get too close. When it was on the telegraph pole it kept moving around to hide from me, then suddenly it flew down to the ground to feed on something, stayed there for a minute or so then took off. Just before it took off I managed to change to faster settings, but this was the best I could get. I'm still pleased though, I hope you enjoy .

Ahhhh, Ian those are great shots. I like those of him flying, some really good poses there and so clear. But the
one that looks like his wings are folded up tight to his body makes him look like he is floating on some invisible
branch. He sure is a pretty one and different than the ones we have at our feeders or anywhere in out area.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for the comments guys :icon_thumleft:, I'm still learning the camera, and will be for some time. I didn't expect to see the woodpecker and so I wasn't set up for it, these were the best I could do in the time. A friend of mine is a professional photographer, so I hope to get some tips from him so I can keep you guys entertained :tongue3:. And SS, the green woodpecker is more common around here than the other two, but you are right, they are quite scarce :(

Those are some really great photos. I'm lucky to get one shot of a flying bird.
