Anyone know what kind of a mushroom this is? It was huge! And I can't believe it was even growing because its been so dry here in Oklahoma.

I ''think'' that when it matures it turns (dark grey) into a puff ball.

Yep, Puffball mushroom. Odd about the lack of water. They grow all over western Oregon where there is lots of moisture, but not that big. I once found one in the dry climate of eastern Oregon that was the size of a football. ( Had been some recent rain though. )

Thanks Ron and Old Digger...It was weird seeing these things out in the pasture---everything else around them was brittle and dried up.

It doesnt take much for puffballs to come up. we have had drought conditions for months, but the first short rain we had these everywhere. tho I've never seen one that big. guess you can eat some puffballs, but - - -
