[River Rat]

As so many of you know, I love the beauty of wood. I may not be artistic as Ron or Fossis, but I do enjoy working with natural wood. I use mostly cypress & Chinese tallow wood. Each wood is different to work with, cypress has a natural shredding that has to be removed, it does take time.

At the present time it is more comfortable sitting on my ATV to debark the sticks

Not long enough for hiking sticks, but Fossis gave me some ideas

Well HB you are really talented also The musical instrument looks familiar. What is it called ? I saw a group playing something very similar to the design you have here. I am convinced that treasure hunters are not only unique and adventurous in nature but they all seem to have TALENT

Hey R.R., Walking/Hiking sticks are right up my alley too! Yeah, it takes some time to clean them up, but that is what I like about it. When I strip the bark, I try to avoid cutting into the natural surface of the wood itself. I use a Barlow knife with a dull blade to strip the bark(doesn't dig in). I leave some natural and just coat them with a spar varnish. I carve in some of them and use a woodburning tool also. I really need to get some pics on here, but keep putting it on the back burner.

RR, those are great-looking walker's! You did a wonderful job preserving the natural shape & character of the wood.

Out of curiosity, what percentage of the wood pieces you find become walker's?

The instruments are called "Dulcimer" they are an old instrument from the mountains. They are easy to build and play. The word "dulcimer"
first showed up in the "KJV" book of Daniel Ch. 3.
