There are two common ways to die in the dessert, thirst and drowning. Last night was the second way. RV park manager, Robert, said the water was a river from ditch to ditch last night as it washed some of our driveway away.

The intersection of Hwy89 and Post St was full of rocks like these and you can see they are still working at 9:00 am this morning.

The Post Office is at 89 and Post. It flooded. John and I helped Dave Get water and mud out from inside and out.

This pic of the edge of the street is what the front of the door looked like.

I hope all fared well down the washes towards Rich Hill (Stanton, AZ). ╦╦Ç

Oh yes I can (but don't want to)! Places that get rain often are pretty much already SHAPED. These "gully washers" here shape the area right before your very eyes! Tnx. ╦╦Ç

I was on the east side of Rich Hill (Cat Claw claim), in 2007, when 65-mph wind gusts and rain haunted my prospecting efforts for two days. Weaver Creek, Antelope Creek, and every other wash in the area overflowed. Desert rain ain't no joke!

So true, so true! I experienced a hail storm driving into Congress a few years ago, very near that sign. The road ahead looked STRANGE. Very White. NO rain. Two vehicles had already skidded off the road. TWO INCHES of hail on only about 200 yards of road surface. (I can hear the road crews cleaning up on the hwy as I write. They may be filling the gouges in front of the park before further damage can occur) ╦╦Ç

Terry, you may recognize Kokopelli's Antiques, across from the P O this morning.... 10 :50 am.

This other business, across and left of P O, is pretty new.

The county teams are wasting no time cleaning up! I talked to Robert. Some of the rocks in the biggest hole were placed by him before I took the pic. He's quick that way. ╦╦Ç

A few more pics.....

This hole is about 10 inches deep.
DSC00261.JPG

PROSPECTIVE PROSPECTORS take note..... These rocks were laid down by the force of the running water. When the water lost most of its force, the larger stones fell out in a line.
DSC00267.JPG
The rest went down further. Gold does the same thing! Bigger gold will fall out along this rock line with the country rock. Learn this! ╦╦Ç

Also note that they are pretty much the same size (the larger ones fell out up on the road and were scraped away). The moving water will CLASSIFY the gold to size, just as it did with these rocks and mud (dirt). ╦╦Ç

Yeah when it rains in Arizona it really rains.
It is the monsoon season right now. Flash floods are the norm right now. That is the reason you must NEVER set up camp or park your vehicle in the bottom of a wash. It may be raining far enough away that you don't see the clouds but then..... the water, mud, and sometimes boulders the size of Volkswagens come down the wash from the mountain. Too late. You may save yourself but kiss the gear and vehicle goodbye! ╦╦Ç

Yeah I had AZ as a territory in the 1990s and I would spend more time there during the summer due to available motels and cost. Saw a couple of wicked storms. Sure does make the desert beautiful though after those rains.
