The tree that wouldn't burn

While searching the old 'Houseplace' where I found the
rifle, (I hoped to find the barrel), I spied a hugh Oak tree, that was hollow, & looked like lightning had struck it, it had a crack at
the top, it was burned & blackened, but the fire went out, without
burning anywhere else, (no sign of fire at the base).
I guess a rainstorm followed the lightning & 'dowsed' it.

There used to be a "witness tree" in the middle of the road by my Dads place and it was a huge oak just like this one . They said a old hermit lived in that tree off and on and he would harass people who travailed the road till they gave him some kinda hand out. All the locals would toss stuff out for him as they went by....

Wow, I would probably give him something too.

No Wes, I hunted hard for two & a half hours, found
lots of stuff, wagon nut, wagon tire ring, copper lid for a tub, lots of broken cast iron, axe. (think I found the barn area).
Also found a firebrick that says 'green', hinge, rings.
To answer your question, (Will it clean up?) too rusty.

Hey Fossis you see the special on Discovery Channel about Bigfoot ?? I was filmed in your area ...You ever see any bigfoot down there?

No, I missed it, I've never seen one, but know
several people who claim they have.
One lady said her & her father saw one in the headlights, bend over & pick up a small one & walk away, (smelled like rotten cabbage).
Another WW2 vet & his brother saw one in E.AR years ago, said it smelled like a garbage truck, & stuck out it's leg & arm, as if to try & stop their car.
Another (two guys) on motorcycles, said they had to dodge a hairy arm, stuck out over the hwy one night at the OK & AR line.
A 'Sunday School Teacher' & her husband claimed they saw one at night south of Ft. Smith AR.
A friend of mine said his Grandmother told of a "Large Hairy Man'
jumping from the bushes & grabbing a little boy years ago.
( Although I have never seen newspaper articles about it)
Early explorers in OK, reported seeing a 'Man Beast' near Mountain fork river in McCurtain Co in the 1800's.
And the list goes on...............

I doubt it Tom, but he may have been living in the
tree, before it burned. ::)

I would have been all over that tree too Fossis. Great picture and mystery of why it only burned some. Those are some really cool relics, would take allot of coke to clean them up :D. That site looks promising, did you detect around the tree?

Was interesting reading about the big foot stories. Thanks!

I can only assume a hard 'downpour' put out the fire,
I found one piece of 'slag' from a blacksmith's furnace, &
the 'firebrick', plus a piece of cast iron.

You're welcome, Fossis..............

Thanks, I could see 'claw marks' on the trunk
so they may be in there now, (I didn't disturb them).
