    Wickenburg Massacre

On Hwy 60, just west of Wickenburg is this historical marker. I've never noticed it before... it's been here since 1937.

If difficult to read, that is the Wickenburg-Ehrenburg stage. ╦╦C

Never lived there but have been through Wickenburg traveling between Bullhead City and Phoenix and spent night in Wickenburg so it would be a short trip to Phoenix the next day for airline flight.

Lots of history in EVERY state but some are too busy to notice/remember. Many people go other places to be a tourist yet they don't take the time to explore near their own back yard! ╦╦C

Look up this massacre on Wikipedia and read about the other events that led up to this day. The way we treated Native Americans back then was shameful. ╦╦C

Here is an interesting read about the massacre.

The Wickenburg Massacre Site ? An Enduring Mystery | wickenburg-az.com

This incident marked quite a change in attitude and policy regarding the Yavapai as well as Indians in general, as a rising young journalist was killed. There are more graves around the area than were killed in the ambush.
This is the journalist Frederick Wadsworth Loring with his mule, named Evil Merodach in a photo taken 48 hours before his death.
