Camera trap grouse

I had been seeing this male ruffed grouse sitting in the same place on an old log, so I set a DSLR camera trap with motion sensor aimed at and manually focused where he likes to hang out...I was hoping to catch him doing that drumming thing they do.... Surprisingly when I went to check it one morning he was right in front of the camera where he was supposed to be. ( Camera box is covered with a waterproof camo backpack cover. )

Using a Canon T4i Rebel with 18-55 kit lens in a modified pelican case. Wireless motion sensor and triggers to fire camera and two off camera flashes.

This is the most cooperative grouse I've ever seen. After leaving the camera there for three days, I had over a thousand pictures to choose from.

Thanks Fat, I think he did see his reflection in the filter in front of the lens. There is a closer one that was out of focus where he was looking right into the lens but darker and out of focus.

I went grouse hunting once in southern Ohio. I shot a lot of bark off the trees, never came close. Your pics are great.
