Water Moccasins are territorial and will stake their territory just like a cottonmouth.
Only a cottonmouth from my experience will bite with little or no warning.

Where as a moccasin will try to get away before a serious confrontation occurs

Isn't cottonmouth just a nickname for Water Moccasins? Aren't they the same thing?

The cotton mouths I have seen and had strike at me were black and much heavier through the body.
These are a bit different in color patern and body shape..

no a cotton mouth is much more aggressive, grows larger, jaws detach more to swallow even a fish and can strike/bite you underwater.

Cotton Mouths and Water Moccasins= Mean and nasty little buggers that chase my fishing line, eat my fish when I reel it in, like paddles and blunt objects upside there triangle shaped heads. I don't like em, they stink and are better off pushing up daisy's. :tard: :tongue3:

A few years ago a local area town was going to get algae eaters to keep it down and that will help keep the CM / WM down ( by the way the state game ranger said we didn't have any in this area Ha!) but, they were so thick they had a weekend snake shoot they were soooooooooooooo thick you could not even stand safely on the bridge up on the road!

I looked up some pictures to compare and I think this is a copperhead water moccasin.
He did seem aggressive and territorial though.
I just let him have his spot back. lol. I wasn't in the mood to argue. :-[
