My wife and I have not purchased any detectors yet. We are only interested in gold detecting detectors, but know little or nothing about them.
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
Wife and I live in the California Mother Lode just west of Yosemite. We are both retired, and new to prospecting. Were here to learn. We are going to purchase a couple of detectors designed for detecting gold. We know little or nothing about them at this point. Had one old detectors, all it would find is junk.

We are not allowed to dredge in our area, and aren't interested in hard rock mining, just want the nuggets, and flakes. :happysmiley:

I suggest you start slow. Get some good pans & classifiers, and keep it simple in the beginning. Put some time in panning and mastering that. Graduate up from there.

The sensible beginning....

And, welcome to TNet.

Welcome! Depending on your budget, there are a lot of gold detectors to choose from. Terry mentioned several affordable options. As you go up in price, you will get more depth and sensitivity to sub gram nuggets. Give me a shout if I can help you narrow down your selection.
