Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Welcome! There are a lot of choices. Share with us:

what type of detecting you will be doing? (water, land, salt beach)
What targets do you desire? (gold nuggets, coins, jewelry, relics)
Area you will hunt ? (state, country)
Budget to spend for detector and accessories ? ($350 /$500/ 1000 / 1500/ 2000/ up)

By answering these types of questions, you will get more educated responses. Detectors are a lot like cars, brands have their favorites ( Ford vs Chevy), but there are good detectors in every price range. There is not just one detector that will excel at all tasks in all types of soil.

Welcome, I would go with the AT pro for beginning but each one will have a learning curve and perform a little differently.
