I like to metal detect in search of anything old, looking for coins got me into it, here in nova Scotia I do a lot of coast line detecting .

I use the discovery 2200, and yea its about to get really cold soon lol. I usually metal detect until the ground freezes. And after that I'll do the coast line for a while, it doesnt really freeze there.

There is a Dominion Fisheries Museum in Ontario that would be able to help. From what I can find 1884-1918 is the possibility

Good call there! When I was searching, I found similar listings dating to 1897, but without the same exact terms on the badge. I'd say that is a great find, and likely plenty rare. Rare, however doesn't necessarily equate to high value.

There's likely dozens & dozens of Discovery users on this site. I searched and came up with pages full of threads. Here's one you may find of interest:
