Hello! Super excited to find this site, its a trove of information. My Dad got a Discovery 2200 a few years ago as a birthday gift but never got into it. I've recently dug it up and started playing around with it, trying to figure out how to use it. I'm hooked! I haven't found anything yet but it's all I can think about. Planning a trip to a local beach next week to practice.

Welcome to Tnet from NYC.
Start out on dry sand only. You'll need a good scoop. Try testing a few different targets to familiarize yourself with the tones and numbers.
You can do that in your backyard by throwing down different denominations of coins.
Good luck.

Welcome to TNet from Virginia! I agree with against the wind and stay in the dry sand. The salt in the wet sand will give the detector a fit and it is not waterproof or salt ready so surf is probably dangerous for it. Look to the areas where everyone puts there towels, chairs and umbrellas and also around the areas where the steps go over the dunes and near parking areas where someone might stop to rummage around in a beach bag, etc. for keys and drop stuff. Things can get flipped off a towel or chair and hard to find in dry sand and since there is a lot of it, don't be discouraged if finds don't come fast, it's a lot of area and you can only cover so much. Remember that rings may sound like pulltabs and vice-versa so you may be sifting a bit of sand but that is all part of it. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
