You'll find there are a few of us around in SW Virginia. Plenty things to search for around here, lot's of legends.
I don't know where you're actually located, but Roanoke and Salem offer free permits, you just have to request them - but they're good for a year at a time. Danville issues free permits for life - and again you must request them. I don't know about Galax and to the West or other areas of SW VA.
