Welcome Aboard! I am a little confused on your state - so, take a look at Forum: Alabama and/or Forum: Georgia for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to either state.

Welcome aboard! A quick Google search of "Metal detecting laws in the state of XX" usually yields some guidance. A few thoughts:

- Usually if it is an archaeological site, other protected site, or federal land, it's a no-go.
- Many states follow suit, but have some exceptions (for instance, here in MO, we can't hunt state parks, with the exception of the few that have sand beaches; these have specific rules and requirements).
- City parks, athletic fields, and the like are usually ok if you're using a hand digger, but be aware of signage and take special care in filling your holes (which you should be doing anyhow, but I think you take the point).
- Private property with permission of the owner or occupant.

Use common sense, fill your holes, and take out whatever garbage you find; this keeps the hobby in a positive light, making life easier and enjoyable for us all.

Happy hunting!

Guess where I’m looking might confuse some. I have a house in Lagrange ga. On a lake. But live in Phenix City Al. It just a few miles from each other. And Phenix City Al and Columbus Ga are almost the same town. With a river flowing them to devide Them.

Welcome to the site from middle Georgia! Yup Phenix isn't Phoenix. And living in Kansas City can be KC, MO or KC, KS. Yea you've got a different area, but some good things too. Since you live on the border you can go to both sides to look or prospect. Just check with the local county parks and rec to see if they have a definitive policy. Out in Missouri the county I lived in allowed you to detect if you paid a $5 fee per year. But there's lots of place to look and hope you have a great time over there. Once again, glad to have you here!!
