Pewter rods ???

At the early Dutch site I am working I found what I think are pewter repair sticks. (about .315 x .315 by 4") They are not as heavy as lead and much harder. I heated one and it can be melted with a propane torch. I suspect the were used to repair pewter kitchen items. Am I on the right track?

On further consideration they might have been used to make pewter items in a mold or a tool of some sort. I also found brass dross at this site. They seem to be squared and tapered lengthwise. I broke the long piece with my shovel.

I have found a number of pewter spoon handles that look almost certainly homemade so I'm sure pewter was used both for molding and repairing of all kinds.
