Found a handful of point yesterday. ~80 brokes, a couple of whole. Most all have been kissed by the plow. Need help on identifying the 2 points by the ruler. They were found in Pike Co IL on a site Perino identified as a single component Hopewell site. I found the Hopewell stuff in the other picture there as well. Sorry for the quality, there are all camera phone pictures.

The heat treated Burlington Hopewell was a real heart breaker. There was only a small portion of the surface exposed so I flipped it out without an in-situ. This was nearly 20 feet from my truck.

Steve - It definately has the look of a Morrow Mountain, but something about that doesn't seem right. It's a fair bit out of the normal distribution for the type, and the site was identified by Perino as a single component Hopewell site so the timing is off also. I did however find 1 Archaic side notch base so maybe he missed on it being a single component site. When I found the point I thought it was a Pesker Diamond, but I don't really know.

Au-seeker - yes I found all of these in one day, about 80 total pieces counting brokes that I took home, not counting scrapers, cores, bladelets, brokes and others left in the field. There is so much stuff across such a large area it's hard to hunt in a day (I spent 9 hours hunting it and never stopped moving and didn't feel like I really covered it).

Bum-luck - I'm new to the area so I don't have many sites to offer, but if you're ever in St Louis let me know and I'll see if we can find you a point or two.

What do you make of the smaller point? It's made from a flake and l assume is a true arrowhead. Never found one like it before.

I've done some more research and I do believe this point is a Peisker Diamond. It's the right time frame, the right region and the right material.
