There was alot going on in this relatively short period of time throughout North America. it hasn't been often if ever I've seen a thread devoted to the artifacts of this period. I like these items because they are the artifacts of a time of tremendous change. Sometimes I wish they could speak.
Here I have some worked bottle glass a rolled copper spear point and the few trade beads I have found.

I found a piece the other day but it might just be a broken piece of glass. It has all the look of a knife but I dont have a pic yet.

If it has pressure flaking or grinding...and importantly made of glass from the right time period it might be.. context is important too. Usually I find if you have to look too hard its just broken. Its pretty obvious when you see something made for a purpose with multiple flakes and tracks from a pressure flaking tool.

Love that silver..and wow that's alot of beads..reminds me of the gulf side of the state. I should add some of the pottery from the period as well..some Spanish..some Native. ( OK...where did his post go?)

The big thing in the middle of the circle, 2nd pic, is a colonial nail still embedded in wood from a bridge ~mid 1700s
All the rest is from late 1600s to about the early 1800s if I had to guess

Big lot of items there... looks like you have a pile of pipe stems too. I recognize alot of the ceramics also..see alot of salt glazed..those and the square nails are representative of the 18 hundreds.. before we get too far away from Native American related items I will make this one last post of items from a second Seminole war fort established in 1838 three years into the war and decommissioned in 1842 at the end of the war.. promptly burnt down the following year.

I've found a few contact pieces like a nice glass Trade Bead, a few pieces of worked glass, and some Trade Pipes but I don't have a lot of pictures of any of it. I do have some pics of my best Trade Pipe I just found last year though.

I also added a picture I drew of the in situ.

Great thread Gatorboy. Contact period artifacts are very rare in Illinois since we eradicated Native Americans here by 1835(Trail of Tears era) These are much later but it is the best I can do. [

Thanks... and by the way that trail came from here too. The second Seminole war was waged to eradicate... 1835-1842
