I don't know how much flint type material you have kicking around your neck of the woods Trev, but we don't have much around here, so we would definitely have a second look.

Show some pics of some of the "chunks"..are they spalls or just hunks of material? It's quite possible that the lithic material itself isn't of good conchoidal fracturing properties and wouldn't be of much use to knappers. Or, if the material is of decent knapping qualities, it could be a quarry area (one of my least favorite type of spots to hunt). There are alot of "could be's"...pictures would help immensely.

Big chunks are good.Good sign.I keep all flint&chalcendony,chert,pipestone,slate etc.I find.
