I have only found pieces. I did however see a collection this week and the guy says look at this I dont know what it is but it has a groove on it. I looked and it was a tie on banner. It was about 4 inches long. Those are rare and found in our area.

Nice artifacts everyone ! I have found pieces of 4 bannerstones in the local fields that I walk over the past 5 years, but just fragments of less than 50%. This past summer I finally found a whole one, but it is unfinished, or just a preform. It is drilled about 80% of the way thru, and has not been smoothed or polished, and also has some plow scaring. Attached are photos of it insitu, and cleaned up. This came from a site that so far has only produced later archaic to early middle woodland points for us to date.

I have found a couple broken pieces but never a whole one and I don't know of any being found in my area. Here is one I picked up at the Flea Market for next to nothing.

I like piece. Looks like they broke that wing and salvaged the piece. Good find.

Here's what I've picked up. All but one Kosciusko co. One piece Huntington co. Really enjoyed this thread, it's all good. I just can't be convinced that these large winged banners were all atl atl weights. What's everyones thoughts on this? bannerstones 001.JPG bannerstones 002.JPG bannerstones 003.JPG bannerstones 004.JPG bannerstones 007.JPG bannerstones 008.JPG bannerstones 009.JPG bannerstones 010.JPG bannerstones 012.JPG bannerstones 013.JPG

Nice find any banner to me would be great. One part of me envies you field hunters. You have it made. But everytime i see a disc struck axe or in your case a bannerstone it makes me cringe.I find less stuff but you will never see anything with recent battle scars from farm implements. Its a fair trade in my book.

Here's one that was found several years ago by friend of mine in the creek. (Lee County, Georgia) In person, you can see a faint drawing on the side that appears to be a bird.
