I don't even remember where I found this piece. I have no idea what it is. It looks like it's had some use to it. It kind of feels like an emory board or like sandpaper. Fits in the palm of my hand, 3" x 4" at the long point. Between 1/2" and 1" thick depending on where you measure it. Streak tests grey like the darker areas on it. Any ideas as to what this is?

It doesn't look like any mortar I've ever mixed or seen. It appears to have a small spot of hard stone still on two faces, one corner and the edge of the same. Here are a few enlarged photos-

Im sure he meant Metate which are usually flat. Spell check says I spelt it wrong not sure though. But it does look like a sharpening stone even though I have never found one yet.

It does look like an abrading stone to sharpen bone or arrow shafts. They look just like that and are usually identified when found with other artifacts. But you are in the right area for an artifact like that. Here they were for bone awls mostly. I have one or two that Larson51 sent me from the Dakotas.
