Looks like a tinkler. Rolled copper used for decoration, sound, dancing & an all round good time :} imo

I agree on the Tinkler. Ive never found 1 but would like to. Am I correct on thinking they were used to hang up like we do chimes? Like playing music in the wind if I remember rite.

Tinklers are usually rolled conical with the small end held by an internal knot. The rectangular hole in the side location suggests that something was inserted there to keep it from turning. Just my observation.

I wondered about that too. I have one which looks identical - except for that hole. Nice find.

Can we see the holes on the ends? I might want to change my mind but at least we know what the Tinkler was used for, Thanks Creek Hunter

Here are some photos of the ends, One hole at the end is slightly larger then the other one. 13631467_281935575497036_1099579906922043255_n.jpg 13886909_281935472163713_6981047036940308879_n.jpg 13892028_281935478830379_6032721005289202834_n.jpg 13892342_281935475497046_2868355335270569421_n.jpg

Just dont know now what to call it. Looks almost like a whistle with that cut in it. Keep it maybe one day somebody else will find 1 like it.

When I first saw it I thought it was one of these since they were very similar. Not sure though because of that rectangular hole. Wondered before if mine might have been hair decoration (like they use beads) for the women as an alternative to a tinkler but idk. Neither really explains that hole. Hopefully we find out. Hh

I think this is going back to the whatisit pile, still not convince it's a tinkler but not sure what it is either.

Could be a jingler for a NA Jingle Dress. The attaching cord could have gone in the top and out through the side slot to give the piece more movement.
