Yesterday's finds

[Triumph]

Drove down to our site yesterday dug for about six hours.
More productive than usual Serrated Kirk was about 4 feet down. The small point that looks like quartz is actually chert. It was in the first foot of the dig.

Omg my friend those are some amazing finds. It's been a while since I've seen such an amazing assortment of pottery

Yea I have two 5gal buckets full from this site.
Notice the red paint on the 3 pieces in the bottom left. I have about 5 small pieces with that red paint on it. In the low country the sand is so acidic it you never find any color on the pottery.

I live in Charlotte but the site is in Bamberg county SC. Coastal plains chert. The site is perfect it overlooks a small river. Every where we dig we find something.

lol yep I love the pottery and the story it tells. You are lucky to have such a great producing place to hunt! I would go crazy with excitement if my creek would give up that much. Your other finds there are real cool too

Here's a picture of the dig.
It is flat area above a small river. To the left is about a 15 foot drop off to a pool of slow running water about 4 feet deep about 20 feet wide. On the left side of the pool is a point that runs about 60 feet into the main river. On the right side of the site is a slope away from the site where the rain water goes so the site is high and dry.
Topology matters.

Maybe trade some pottery for Peaches!
Ill try to get some on the pieces of the same type together and take some more pictures.
I enjoy the pottery as much as the points.

Great looking site and finds. The soil looks sandy do you probe before you dig? Are you in the trash pits or just culture on top of culture?

I have tried but it is easier just to dig a pilot hole. This site is covered and the stratification is intact. We have another place in the same area we dig but it was bull dozed so it was less productive.
There is almost no rocks all sand so if we find anything in the sifter it is an artifact. It is culture on culture the trash pit is probably the pool to the left of the site which overlooks it. I would love to dig the muck out of the bottom of that but right now we probably have 2 years of digging as it is.

If your going down that deep tripods are a must. Saves a lot of time and energy. Good luck, I hope you find many more great artifacts.
How much of the site have you excavated so far?

4 ft now thats deep for that period isnt it? Looks like fun wish we could dig here but the soil is hard as a rock so I would have to swing a pick ax just to crack the top soil.

Same way here on the top of the flats. Down in the trees it's softer but I've never really found a huge assortment of stuff down below a shelter. I had one bluff shelter I dug that produced very little outside the drip line so I wondered up top. It is amazing the amount of pottery, complete blades, and points I found laying up top.

I site is what is in the picture. It is about 15 x20 now we have dug about 5 times on this site.

The serrated Kirk was at 4 ft right above the hard pan. Its hard to get motivated to dig that deep as the dirt pile starts looking ominous. There are cows here so we have to fill in every trip.
But if we find something like flakes at 3 feet we dig on down another foot. We almost missed the Kirk and were about ready to start the next cut back when we found it on the floor. It never made it into the sifter.

The 3 eared Yadkins were all found on the last dig with in 3 feet of each other.
These include the Yadkins from our other site about 500 yards away.
These are points from about 16 months of digging maybe once per month.

Especially when its time to fill in the hole! I need a front end loader!!
