Found these on Saturday near a Spanish mission site that was abandoned in 1704. The cemetery, which was fenced by the State when I was young but has since been abandoned, borders a new housing development where they are continually clearing for lots and roads. The clay pipe looks very similar to others I have seen, and I was told by an archaeologist that they were mass produced for use as a trade item. A company in Virginia then made replicas in the 1800's. The point is obviously a trinket of some sort, but looks very cool.

I found this one along with several broken pieces on an old home site in Lawrence county Ohio. After doing research and showing it at several shows it was agreed that it most likely came from the Point Pleasent Pipe Factory. That's a nice one you found.

Here some in situs, some pics right after I found it, and a drawing I did of the one in situ.

The first pipe was made in Pamplin VA. I have bought them by the hundreds fresh dug from there. I dug up several like the second one in Mogadore Ohio. Both the Mogadore & Pamplin factories were owned by the same company and shared molds.
