Family Point Collection- Help

[Northernman]

Hey guys new member been lurking for a few weeks.

My grandfather found these when he was a kid in Southern Manitoba during the Dirty Thirties. They would go to the same wind blown family fields every weekend after church and fill their pockets.

Think I have identified a few of them ( seems like their origins are from all over North America) but I’m interested with the expertise present on this site if anyone sees something that catches their eye or knows something about.

I know the photos aren’t the greatest but the points are in two separate wood frames with no easy access and I don’t want to disturb them too much ( family heirloom).

Thanks in advance for any info, if any points catch your attention and you want better photos I can try my best.

What an awesome collection!

You mention some of the types come from all over North America. Some of the styles have pretty big ranges, but everything in those frames looks right as rain for that part of the plains.

Pic 5, upper left. That grey lanceolate is a really nice old piece. Probably paleo$$$. Last row, pic on left. The center piece looks like it is made from ground slate. Wow! You have lots of points made from KRF...Knife River Flint from ND., or possibly material that looks just like KRF. It's the root beer colored stone. Gary

Your pictures show an exceptionally fine northern Plains collection, many made of high quality materials.
An impressive personally found collection, you are fortunate to have it as a family heirloom.

Can anyone confirm if the two larger points in the middle are Cody Knives?

Also there are a couple steel points any info on those would be appreciated if possible?

The only downfall with the frame is I can’t get my hands on them.

There are a number of cultures represented in your two
frames but as far as I can tell I'm not seeing any artifacts
that would be related to the Cody Complex.

Agreed. I don't see any Cody related artifacts from what I can see in your pictures. I do however seen some Besant Points, Oxbow Points, possibly McKeans. This link is for Northern Plains types and will help you ID some of them.

I see Lots of similar materials and types that are also found here in the Dakota’s.

Many are very worthy of closer examination, I know i would have a hard time not re-framing and getting my hands on them.

don't get fixated on "naming" them. Archaeologists will identify those by style thus "desert sierra" becomes "Triangular blade, side notched, incurvate (concave) base".
