I’m guessing this copper disk is NOT NA - but

I’m posting this artifact here because it was found in an area where I have found archaic and woodland projectile points and tools. I don’t have a reference regarding a NA related copper or any disk shaped item of any kind on the east coast.

If anyone has any thoughts let me know

Interesting ... I think Kray may be on to something with the escutcheon plate .... did you post in the “what’s it” forum ? May get some more reply’s there especially from all the metal detecting members

I think will repost in the ‘what’s it’ forum.

Whether it is machined, I do not know. It’s a weird item for sure.

It may be machine made, but it also looks hammered on the scribed decorative side.

I thought maybe an old equestrian type of fastener?

The hole is cone shaped and the wall of the hole has drill rings. IDK. If it is an escutcheon plate, the wide end of the drilled hole should be on the flat side.

Those drill marks and conical shape could be an impression from the threads of a screw digging in and wallowing out the hole while a drawer or cabinet door pull was loose or possibly from installation. It looks like a backing plate for such or similar application IMO.
