Very nice Shell artifacts archaeon.

We find quite a few Shell pieces on our Ft Ancient sites here in southern Ohio like Beads, Pendants, Hoes, and Spoons but we don't find the Shell Tools like you guys find in Florida. I really like your Shell Crescent. I have one very similar that is actually a two hole Shell Gorget.

Here's a few pictures of some of my Shell pieces including some Necklaces and a couple Shell Hoes.

Outstanding finds guys...We don't find many shell artifacts, but this earplug made from a conch shell is something else...I've posted it before, but my daughter loves when I show it off because she's the one that found it.

those are conch shell hammers/pounders...also were sharpened on the end to use as adzes. the notch in the lip of the conch is part of the hafting means as well as the hole opposite it. a wooden handle would go through the hole and into the notch. not every shell with a hole is a hammer though. Some are kill holes to get at the animal inside. shell hammers have ground lips and ground notches and well as worn/ground ends. i'll post a shell hammer thread maybe soon. they came in all sizes, from over 12 inches to 2 inches. some are "one holers" some two and three or four holers.
