For many years they stood wide open.
Not sure If The Property Owner of the Lot
did it for Insurance reasons, Or the City Did.

There is Rumors the Caves lead all the way to Yuengling Brewery.
But is doubtful unless they Make a U turn

Yuengling is Circled and on the South Side of the Mahantongo Street
Rettig was on the North side of Market & The caves Go North. See yellow Line.
I Do not know For sure Which way the Caves Under Yuengling Lead, But I'll wager South Towards the Mountain.

Though there is also tales of Tunnels being used by Yuengling during Prohibition

Rettig Brewing Co. opened in 1901 and closed in 1920 it was open for 19 years. Items from breweries of this age tend to be more common and less valuable than some breweries. Early items can still be valuable as can rarer types of items. As a Pre-Prohibition Brewery, any advertising items or collectibles are likely to be valuable and desirable to collectors as they tend to be hard to find. Rettig Brewing Co. was in an active brewing city. Pottsville, PA was listed as having 7 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors.
