Re: The Friends Meeting House
I have hunted the one in Deep run and found nothing to really talk about. I was only there once so far. The one in Quakertown is in the middle of town with a lot of on lookers. I have thought of it. Lahaska and Solebury are tough. Lots of "rich" people around those parts with bad attitudes. Great places though.

Re: The Friends Meeting House
I wrote a nice note to seek permission to hunt the one in Chester which dates to the 1600's. I got no reply.

That means they don't care. Go for it! I have never asked permission to hunt at any church and I have never had a problem. Mostly people left me alone or came over and asked me what I have found. I have often thought of keeping a dirty indian head cent in my pocket and giving it to someone that worked there if they looked at me weird. You can get them for a buck at the coin shop and it would be worth it to keep hunting with no more fuss.

Re: The Friends Meeting House
I have so many meeting houses around me. I never really knew how to approach them about detecting there... Guess I kinda feel like I am dealing with a church. I have contacted many churches in my area and have not had a green light on any of them.

Re: The Friends Meeting House
Don't try and detect around the Friends Meeting House in Catawissa. The borough has banned metal detecting in the borough. There was a front page article in the Bloomsburg paper about 6 months ago about detectorists getting chased from the cemetary adjacent to the meeting house. Apparently when they were told to leave they got mouthy with the borough councilman and then the police got involved. The town decided to draw up an ordinance against detecting. The police stated that they have chased people detecting in the cemetary and around the Friends Meeting House on several occasions. People have to remember that property is owned by someone, you just don't go in and start detecting. Especially if it is a cemetary or historic site. You have to get permission. Also, when you are told to leave, don't start trouble. Just say you are sorry and pack up and leave.

Re: The Friends Meeting House
If it is privately owned, you don't mess with it. Even if it is public and someone that works there gives you a problem, you just leave. I agree. I have never had a problem detecting anywhere in my 9 years with the hobby. Then again, I have a friendly face.
