It looks like a vintage US Navy Tender, but I can't find any reference
to a tender with the "52" hull designation.

Time to do the homework...try Googling vintage navy vessels. It's a
place to start.

Did a bit of work on the image, and hopefully the details are
more clear in this version. I couldn't sharpen as it's a "picture
of a picture", but there are more details present.
