I have the older deepstar PI and it is the best PI I have used so far. The threshold is steady as a rock. Although this is a all metal detector, it does have some discrimination. I use this detector with my Arc-Geo and get awesome plots. If you want to read more on this PI you can the report here. http://lrlman.com/Pages/Arc-Geo/Product Review and Field Tests ARC-GEO_3.pdf

The new detector is the Goldscan 5. It does have different tone for conductive targets. You can read from users on the forum below on how well it works for them.

Deepstar is one of the detectors I use most but the Goldquest SS (also by Eric Foster) is not far behind the older Deepstar models and perhaps offers the best bang for your bucks.

Talk about minorities. Only three people(including myself) who are users of Eric Foster's great machines have posted here. As Brian knows I am a GS5 user. My feelings on this PI is that there are more expensive machines with greater depth(Hmmm. I wonder what those are) but they do not possess the iron ID capability as a GS5.
