Public Schools

I have seen this topic come up before on T.N. but I don't recall reading anything definitive when it comes to "usage rights" (if that is the correct terminology) such as metal detecting. These properties are taxpayer funded and metal detecting (when done right) will leave no damage.
I prefer to do this with permission from the superintendent but I am 99% sure that the knee jerk response will be NO!!!!
I would like to have a little knowledge concerning any laws or legal rights on my side before I ask.

i think public schools are fine as long as ya detect them on weekends or not during school hours, unless its fenced or otherwise posted

I may try that. But I still would like to know if ,as taxpayers, do we have any rights when it comes to recreational use of public school property. Or are we at the mercy of what we are told by the superintendant, principal, teacher, lunch lady, sports coach, school nurse, guidance councilor, groundskeeper, janitor, head cheerleader, president of the glee club, school mascot, concerned parent or whoever else thinks that they are in charge and it is up to them to tell you what you can't do because "this is my school".

in all honesty,
I Don't think we have a "Legal" right
to anything anymore.

we're all at the Mercy of circumstance.

If you get a no & push the issue of taxes,
you may get a yes, but
will also likly get a
"You Must turn "Everything in,
including Clad coins" just because
they didn't like being told
they must let you detect.

I Have never been turned down
by a school Office.
havn't asked since 2002.

but remember schizophrenia by school
officials seems epidemic these days.
Don't think they do it Here,
But if somone Sneezes wrong
a mile from a school in the Harrisburg area,
They lock all the schools down for a 2
mile radius & Report it to the Media.
so they can come stand outside
and do a news story.

I contacted two of the elementary schools in my area. I spoke to a secretary at each school (asking for the principal) and both times each assured me that it was fine, after school hours. Basically that means Sundays. Both schools hold afternoon and weekend activities. Mostly school sports, but some local organizations utilize the fields/grounds too.

That is just the two I have called. Your results may vary.
