A recently written book by Steve E. Troutman sheds light on a relatively unknown bridge across the Susquehanna River between Herndon and Port Trevorton – a bridge that existed during the Civil War period and may have been involved in a incident involving Confederate scouts in the crucial days of June 1863 just before the Battle of Gettysburg.

I wish it was easy to get to the west side

I'd either need to make a long Trip around via Sunbury or Clarks Ferry Bridge

3 Hours 120 Mile round trip



Or Hope the Millersburg Ferry is running & can hold my Truck without Sinking
of course still a 3 hour tour, A 3 Hour Tour



Even then Permissions need to be obtained.

the Toll gate on the east bank may be interesting, although there has
been allot of floods since .





but looks like a Nice field for someone off the west bank

of the Susquee-Hanee

Jeff I know what u mean. When I was logging out that way, I either had to go down through sunbury or to Halifax. A bridge there would be nice. Lol

there was a lot of old cover bridges that were burned down during that time period that use to cross the Susquehanna. if r and u look at pics of the river and follow it down ull see the things in the water as u do in ur pic

hey jeff, not sure what size truck you got but the millersburg ferry handled my ram 2500 extended cab and 8 foot bed no problem .even fit another car and a van too.

The aerial map on Mapquest shows White's Island as State Game Lands 233, I haven't seen that on any other aerial map. As I understand, SGL's are prohibited from metal detecting, but state parks are allowed with permission from the ranger on duty. That being said, that would make White's Island out of bounds for us that detect. Am I right or am I missing something, somewhere?
