From Mechanicsburg Library......

New Bloomfield once had a horse race track west of town near the road. slightly soutwest of a mill on widows run.

Montebello Picnic: Once a year the residents would take the train in the direction of Duncannon for a picnic. the first trestle crossing was at the community swimming hole. The picnic grove had no deep creek only a shallow brook, a pavillion, crude stone fireplace, and a railroad siding where the cars were kept while the picnic was on. The people would listen for the train when it passed Kings Mill at the end of the day.

Interestingly enough.....the book spoke of a boardwalk along the rr in town, where kids would fish for coins and lost items.

This book also spoke of the spring southwest of square as the meeting place before modern septic sytems poluted it

Also mentioned was Groffs Woods as a reunion grounds across from Rocky Chaudlers home on Little Buffalo Rd.

The book's title "Long Since"
Author Alberta Pollack a Perry county native and historian circa 1968?

I am in the Newville Area. Just a short drive up 233 to New Bloomfield. There are many areas to check out in the Col Denning region too. Shoot me an email if you are interest in getting together sometime. Don
