Restoring a penny

I'm not sure if this is where you'd post a question like this, but it's been on my mind for a while now:

I got started on this whole treasure hunting bit after finding an indian head penny in a hole in a concrete parking lot. I've found some stuff since, but that's always been my favorite find...
however, the thing was so badly dinged and dented that I can't actually read the date on the penny, near as I can tell, it says 18X2...I'd like to know the date and other information...so:

1: How do you post those sweet, sweet close up shots of coins everyone here seems to do
2: What other features of the penny would allow me to date* it...the things pretty eroded.




* As in: discover when it was struck. While there are doubtlessly many on this website who'd like to go on a date with a numanistic relic like this one, I'm not one of them
