Well not that much. It weighed out at 0.42 grams plus 0.04 grams for this picker which I forgot to include in the first pic

That's still a heck of a day out, nice work!
I just got back from a couple of days in the springs, man there are so many good looking creeks there... Cheyenne mountain zoo feeding the giraffes with the kin and such.
Next time will definately +1 day to it and take my gear.

Thanks! I'm happy with it for sure.

CO Springs- Not much/any gold down there but have fun testing anyway if you insist :)

Yes, I melted some from this same deposit last year and it was over 22K! Very high because it has been out of the source rock for hundreds of millions of years(!!) due to being from the mountains that pre-date the Rockies. Plenty of time for the base metals to oxidize and weather out of the gold flakes. Tough to find any bigger pieces since it's been beat on for so long but very pure.

Tried out a new spot yesterday evening and had fun digging (it's always hard for me to stop shoveling once I get going!). Here is Steve and me with his Prospector.

image-2537903747.jpg

I helped him get it set up, dam up the creek and dug into his box a while. Even so, I had time to setup my Sniper a bit downstream and ran a 30 min sample thru it with this result:

I sure like picking a new, virgin spot in a little local creek and being right about the gold!

Thats always a good feeling. Thats slso a nice 30 min run. Cant wait to see what 8 hours of sluicing yields! And you can bet when the waters too cold to dredge ill be digging into a bazooka! With gold like that within a few miles i dont see why there are not hundreds of people out there.

'Cause I don't tell everyone about my spots, that's why! Of course all I did was read the book, walk the stream, check the county assessor website and then dig...anyone could do that right? They just don't.

Here's my results from an hour and a half or so in the honey hole I started with my nephews a couple weeks ago. Dug this the day before yesterday and found another little picker :)

Will update this with a weight once dry.

PS I've been out 4 of the last 5 days. Time to attend to other things for a few eh?

Went out for a short outing on the Platte yesterday, I'm pretty sure I was working in someone else's tailings so I'm not looking for a miracle in the cons bucket. (Already saw a couple flakes though BAZOOKA!)

Met a domicile challenged guy named Mike. He had a couple of homemade sluices. A piece of gutter with caulking for riffles, and another with a couple of riffles caulked in. I talked to him for about half an hour as I rolled him a few smokes, he knows some of the other regulars I have met there Ron and Rob and Todd etc. so I expect to see him again. After the Captain Black was lit up and we had talked for a few he pulls out little river worn bottle out, and he had some amazing gold in there! I was floored he could get that much with the tools at his disposal.

I went about 50 yards upstream and set up to do my thing. The Bazooka popped right into the pinch I set up and it was a good day.

Cool story and re confirms that there are still people in Denver making a (very modest) living with a gold pan. Guessing you were at Grant Frontier Park from that description lol. Looking forward to seeing the gold!

not sure what the park name is, some lady on a raft asked and I just gave her the cross street hehe.

Old Montana City. I love that place.

yup, old Montana City is Grant frontier Park :) on the SE corner of Evans blvd and the S Platte River (just west of Santa Fe rd)

Site of the first log cabins built in what is now Denver (due to the gold of course) and still a good spot to find some urban gold! ...Partly due to the clay "bedrock" being exposed or at most down a few feet thru the gravel. And easy river access. And good parking. And a helpful bend in the river to encourage the gold to drop during big storms. And the city parks being welcoming to non-motorized prospecting (stay away from the banks tho or risk a fine for damaging city park landscaping/property). Anyway, the best gold is in the first few yards of riverbed from the east edge toward the center of the river.

PS obviously P70 knows a lot of this but since this is my thread, I want to be helpful to readers who may visit Denver and be inclined to sample the South Platte River for gold.
