Howdy all!

I decided I too would start journaling my prospecting misadventures, and the fine Washington flour gold I try so hard to trick into coming home with me.

I don't get out all that much as family and work are my 2 top priorities, but prospecting and running my bazookas is surely a close third.

We are going to start with yesterday's adventure, as it was the most recent chase........

Yesterday I went out to issaquah to the same spot I went with KevininColorado a few weeks ago, and found the river only running about 20% as fast as it was when we were there (12cfs VS 50cfs.). There a always a few good spots to set up a Bazooka, but when the water is low, they tend to be out in the middle of the river, which is not a good spot to dig or carry buckets out to. Fortunately someone else had been working there and built a small dam on the side of the river for their sluice. I just sturdied up one side to direct enough water for my prospector, and set it up.

It was about 72 degrees in the shade, and the water in the river was absolutely perfect temp. I had a pretty good feeling about this day, even though I knew I was only going to get 3 hours from setting foot out of my car, until getting back in.

I did a couple sample pans (which at this point is likely not needed, but I like to anyways,) and they showed the same promise that this spot usually does. I dug in 2 spots that were only a few yards apart. The first spot was a central part of a gravel bar, and the second spot was towards the upstream end.

I ran 8 three gallon buckets from each spot, with a clean out in between the spots.

First Spot Clean Up...

Second a Spot Clean Up...

Pretty good day on the gold for around here and only a few hours!!

More gold to come, thanks for checking this thread out!

Cheers.

I guess I call anything under 50 flour, anything bigger is awesome. Probably got 20 flakes larger than 50, and only one larger than 30. Nice variety in size this trip, normally nothing larger than 30 at this spot, thanks!!

So I got to meet Dizzy Digger and Gnatnutz today!!! I had a large bag of cons to deliver to Dizz from KevininColorado, as well as a 3 gallon bucket of some stuff I had that needed to be worked. What a great day! We had lunch at a local burger spot, and then poked around some river digging spots! Had a really great time, and met 2 great fellow miners. BTW, check out this black sand deposit!

Dizz and Gnatnutz, it was great to meet you guys today, hopefully we can fill some pans again soon!

Cheers!

Kiddo, it was crazy how much there was! You could literally scrape a half inch thick layer off of the beach! But all the sand on the surface was gold free. However, when we dug behind and below some boulders...we found some color!

Todd Hoffman: this black sand has the chance to make us rich if we pray enough and have as many breakdowns as humanly possible

Came across some sad news today, Eagledown, one of the great prospectors and journal writers of our day, has passed away. Please take the time to go to his page and take a peek at his "the many lost treasures of Mariposa, CA. That is what I call an amazing prospectors journal, and there is reading there for weeks. Rest Well Eagle.

Got out to the sultan basin on Olney Creek today. Man oh man has mother nature destroyed that creek bed since last year. And there's rules about refilling holes LOL. Today was really just a sampling trip sampled three different places found Gold two of those places and put the sluice in the water and one of them. I love it when I go to a new place in someone's Already set up of the funnel for me to drop my bazooka into.

Only ran about 10 buckets at the 3 gallon size unclassified. Ended up with quite a few -50 is in a couple of plus 50s not bad for a sampling day.

Cheers!

I found stuff like this in New Zealand; 1/2" or thicker black sand. Unfortunately I was on vacation with family and did not take a pan with me. And it was in a known gold area. :(

The first one shows the thickness of the black sand and the second how much of it there was. Oh, for a pan!!

Coffee cup or soda bottle or ...wow, I wouldn't be able to resist bringing some "beach sand" home to pan!

All I had was a camera; sigh, and kids and grandkids along with my wife. It was a beautiful area of New Zealand that had mining in its history. But no bottles of any type, not even a cup.
