Adding to the comments of Gold Maven: The majority of the book describes his life as a fur trapper. His treasure hunting adventures and finds are exciting to read. He includes a photo of his recovery of the Lost Pond Silver cache in Essex County, New York. The cache includes 27 lbs. of silver ingots, 43 lbs. of lead bars, 24 Spanish eight cobs, 4 reales, and 17 Spanish milled dollars. Another cache he discovered was a bootleggers' cache of hundreds of cases of whiskey. The cache is located in a walled up iron mine tunnel. There are potential leads to a couple of other sites.
I also would have liked to read more but Mr. Thorpe passed away. His book is still being sold by Minnesota Trapline Products.
