In Search of Johnston’s Army: Old Camp Floyd & West Creek as Seen Through the Eyes of a Relic Hunter
An interesting story of the discovery of Old Camp Floyd, Utah (1858) and the search for artifacts. Old Camp Floyd was one of several camp locations of Col. Albert Sidney Johnson’s Army, sent to Salt Lake City to replace Brigham Young with a new governor of Utah Territory. The detectorists documented and mapped the locations of the relics discovered. The author includes parts of the army records and sketches to correlate the locations of the relics with the layout of the various units of the regiment. The army camped for over 8 weeks and lost an incredible number of items (part of the finds are shown on the back cover of the book), including 26 gold coins and a diamond ring!. The book includes lists of the items recovered and photographs of the significant items.
