My stepfather owns a large track of farmland in eastern Missouri. Only a couple of families have lived on the property over the years but there are a couple old, abandoned houses on the property. His brother researched and determined that Major-General Sterling Price’s Confederate army camped on part of the property. It might also have been a Native American hunting ground hundreds or thousands of years ago because every year when he tills the land he finds a few arrowheads. Recently, my brother and I were exploring one of the recently tilled fields. I found an arrowhead and he found this. I haven’t been able to determine what it is or what it could have been used for. I believe it’s brass.

Maybe a cane topper. The British Red Ensign and the American flag - Crown - Anchor and Compass point to a joint British / American nautical expedition of some sort I would imagine. Very Cool find!

Many old homes had wood stove pipe holes in the kitchen walls. They made a slip in cover that had a center bolt sticking out that you slipped a decorative cover over then a decorative nut such as this one was then screwed on the end sticking out thru the cover. This covered up the ugley hole in the wall.
