Hello all,

First post after a couple years of lurking. Muuwahahaha!

Found this shotgun shell end today at an abandoned home site. There's been activity on the property since around 1850, and all I've found worth mentioning in about 10 hours there is two clad pennies and this. Found a big bunch of junk also, ranging from square nails to a rusty horse bit to SPAM can lids.

I'm happy with this find though. It's a 16-gauge shotgun shell end labeled "Indian - 16 - R.H.P. CO." From what I found on the web, it was made by the Robin Hood Powder Company, and they used this inscription on some of their shells from 1900-1906. That means that this shell is 114-120 years old. My grandpa, who has been gone for 67 years, was a young buck when this thing hit the ground. Gotta love it.

It rang up as 12-14 on my Equinox 800, using a 6-inch coil due to all the saplings and things that have grown up around the old farm yard. I hoped I was digging an old nickel, but I'll take it. The only other noteworthy find of the day was a 1983 Lincoln penny. IMG_20200324_175203076.jpg
