Hi,

Paul from Nova Scotia here. Last weekend I found virtually the same two items from a farm field except the whistle looking device is a bit longer with two tabs. I could make out the Royal Fusiliers text and ended up here after a search. Can you tell me what the tubular item is?

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Iron Patch! Not a common item around here, first one I've come across.

Cheers,
Paul

There's a few different pieces, and the tough one to dig is the long piece - it's maybe 6" in length. If you hunt a lot of early sites they do turn up as I have found many over the years, but as I said the long one is more scarce. I've only dug a couple.

The real winner is the button, and I too have found one, but is a far cry from Romeo's condition.

The one I found is the long version I believe. It had two tabs on it instead of the one as shown and is about twice as long. Looks like someone had cut a notch in it in an attempt to turn it into a whistle.

My button isn't as nice as Romeo's either but with a bit of cleaning and Ren wax, it'll be a nice addition to the collection. Out of curiosity, where did you guys find yours? Mine was found near Halifax in Nova Scotia.

Cheers
Paul

Just an amazing restoration romeo! :o :occasion14:
I'll definitely have to try that... as opposed to scrubbing it with dish soap and a toothbrush! :laughing7:
