Hi,

Just recently bought this 5ct pink sapphire and 0.50 VVS diamond ring. Just to check does anyone can give me a rough appraisal price for it. Is it worth going to a gemologist for a appraisal ? To my understanding, a 5ct pink sapphire can be very expensive.

Hum.. my first impression of the stone.. is that it's not a "Pink Sapphire" but could actually be a Pink Tourmaline.. (aka Purple Tourmaline) It's getting so hard to tell these days.. If you sure that it's in fact a pink sapphire and you've had it test to be as such.. then your prob looking in the $5,000 - $8,000 range..

Not to dash your hopes cause this isn't the first time soemone asked my view on thier faceted stones.. A friend wanted me to see her "Ruby" ring.. Somehting just wasnt right.. I told her it was a heat treated topaz which can appear to be a ruby.. Later I was proven right.. and she was very disapointed.. Dealers sell these types of heat treated stones hoping the buyer is unaware..

StoneWhisper is right. You just don't know about these stones. Getting appraised by a certified gemologist is really the only way to tell what kind of stone it really is. Just so people know, most of your main stream jewelry stores don't sell natural gems. Most of them are synthetic / heat treated material. Most of the diamonds are real but colored stones are mostly synthetic.

No serious person in the gem business will give you an estimate from a picture and that not even with a clear identification.
IF it really is a pink sapphire at 5 cts(!!) send it to a lab (GIA, AIGS etc) for certification. Perhaps even re-cutting to improve the value.

and....i am thinking such a stone as a 5 c pink sapphire would be in an 18 k setting...is it?
