check out the last one with (15) in background, the dark spot is where a crystal has decomposed, but it left a perfect hair thin lense of calcite in the middle, i thought that was cool, very delicate, when i dug these out ,you should have seen the crazy looks i got from passersby ,i was on a ladder,24', on highwall , next to the road, i would just wave.only thing left of the tree was a rotten stump, but a prybar,3', got it out of the way. penn dot diddnt like it , but screw them! a statey stopped, but was more interested in what i was finding, than writing a ticket, thats rare!all in all it was cool, this pocket was on the margin of a intrusion into limestone.still a lot of pocket there, i may go back, but then i may leave some for the next crazy rockhound!if the road gets widened it all will go to a fill dump somewhere.

I see some nice material to work with in the first picture. Way to go on the finds.

the first one is all calcite crystals, all are pure white, some gray, and just a few have a greenish hue,i diddnt know if i could cut any of the banded stuff into cabs, any ideas? its pretty stuff,i figured the stratified would look something like agate, i did cut and carve a crystal skull out of a baseball sized calcite, very easy to work with. indiana jones dont have crap on me,lol!

I have a hard time cutting the banded stuff I find around here. It is all so brittle and it just crumbles apart on me. I keep shifting my stone until I find the angle it will cut. I start out with a good size one and end up with about an inch stone left.

Loco, when taking pics under fluorescent lights, you'll need to
adjust the camera's "White Balance" to adjust for the light color.

Here's 3 of your pics with the WB adjusted:

Beautiful material, it is!

Reminds me of a story in one of my books. Some guys found a pocket in the middle of I-95 in maine. They were in the median strip of a 6 lane highway,They pulled out a hell of a lot of garnets.

I'll look for the book for you loco, its buried someplace in my house lol.I'll post the title here tomorrow, quite the story. One guy was saying one of the garnets was softball size.Theres another story in it about the guy that found the biggest amethyst pocket strike in New Hampshire.I believe he was taking them out by the 5 gallon bucket.Unreal.

Here you go loco. The books title is "The Buried Treasures Of Maine" by C.J. Stevens. Its not just about gem and mineral hunting, theres a bit of everything in it.I did make a mistake, the story about the amethyst find is in a different book,I think one at my brothers house.
