Is there Gold in my Rock ? Updated 3-15

So I am wondering how would someone go about knowing if there might be some Gold in a rock like this ?

I have scanned many of my rocks with my Metal Detector and not once have a I gotten a signal. So for the most part I quit scanning them.

But this one seems to have some weight for its size, 1.7 lbs.

So I scanned it in pinpoint mode and it goes off every time, the strongest signal being on the black side.

When I go over it normal mode I get a signal but only on the black side, but not enough to register a number most of the times. When it has registered, which has only been two or three times out of 10+. It did hit in the mid 40's which on my machine I believe that is where raw gold should come in. The At Pro is not really known for finding raw gold.

Any ideas or thoughts from anyone ?

The other strange thing, for fun I did a test scratch and then used 22k acid on it and this is what it looked like after a minute or two.

Looks like an Iron or Manganese ore. I have some that look just like it. I haven't tried the metal detector on them. I'll have to try that.

Unless it is easily visible, if you suspect gold, only an assay will tell you for sure. That being said, I have to agree with BurntBear on what it appears to be.

This rock may have traces of gold in it. But, those traces should lead you to the home. There may be gold around where
U find this one.

Check if it is magnetic. I'm tempted to agree with BB.

Here is one of mine. A Manganese ore of sorts. This one has grown in a Druzy form on one side.

I checked and nowhere on this rock is magnetic. Thinking I should gently try to break it apart and maybe try to find the pieces that are cause my metal detector to beep at me ?

Seeing as nothing showed in the acid test I'm inclined to believe the gold is pyrites. Does not mean there is no gold, least wise as can be seen, but I'd probably dolly up some ore and pan it out.
