While planning a backpacking trip to the Sawtooths I read stumbled upon this little nugget of information on Summitpost. In reference to Braxon peak, "The unique color of rock, as well as the rare crystals, which can be found in the area, certainly make this a special mountain." No further information was provided and a google searched turned up nothing about gems in the Sawtooths. Any ideas on what/where it's referring to?

If you get caught digging for minerals in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, you'll be in big trouble.

There are aquamarine and smokey quartz crystals in the Sawtooths. Unfourtunatly, Jim in Idaho is right, the forest service will bust you if you are caught digging.
