This rock had always seemed a little different to me from my usual quartz. It was a handmedown though, so I'm not sure where it came from. But after seeing different photos of arrow heads and tumbled chert, I was wondering if this rock could be chert. The flat surfaces almost have a marble sort of look. Thanks.

Probably some sort of quartz, for sure. Put a bit in vinegar or pool acid, marble will fizz, quartz won't.

There's a sound test you can do. It helps me id chert & dolomite I find on the beach. Once you hear it you know it. Sometimes I whack it w a quartz rock & see if a "fingerprint" chip flakes off - good sign of chert.
